Restriction and Correspondence-based Translation

چکیده
Kaplan et al. (1989) present a framework for translation based on the description and correspondence concepts of LexicalFunctional Grammar (Kaplan and Bresnan, 1982). Certain phenomena, in particular the head-switching of adverbs and verbs, seem to be problematic for that approach. In this paper we suggest that these difficulties are more properly considered as the result of defective monolingual analyses. We propose a new description-language operator, restriction, to permit a succinct formal encoding of the informal intuition that semantic units sometimes correspond to subsets of functional information. This operator, in conjunction with an additional recursion provided by a description-by-analysis rule, is the basis of a more adequate account of head-switching that preserves the advantages of correspondence-based translation.

Domain Adaptation with Unlabeled Data for Dialog Act Tagging
We investigate the classification of utterances into high-level dialog act categories using word-based features, under conditions where the train and test data differ by genre and/or language. We handle the cross-language cases with machine translation of the test utterances. We analyze and compare two featurebased approaches to using unlabeled data in adaptation: restriction to a shared featur...
متن کاملDiscovery of a novel restriction endonuclease by genome comparison and application of a wheat-germ-based cell-free translation assay: PabI (5′-GTA/C) from the hyperthermophilic archaeon Pyrococcus abyssi
To search for restriction endonucleases, we used a novel plant-based cell-free translation procedure that bypasses the toxicity of these enzymes. To identify candidate genes, the related genomes of the hyperthermophilic archaea Pyrococcus abyssi and Pyrococcus horikoshii were compared. In line with the selfish mobile gene hypothesis for restriction-modification systems, apparent genome rearrang...

متن کاملRobot Motion Vision Part II: Implementation
The idea of Fixation introduced a direct method for general recovery of shape and motion from images without using either feature correspondence or optical flow [1,2]. There are some parameters which have important effects on the performance of fixation method. However, the theory of fixation does not say anything about the autonomous and correct choice of those parameters. This paper presents ...
متن کاملModelling maintenance of wakefulness in rats: comparing potential non-invasive sleep-restriction methods and their effects on sleep and attentional performance.
While several methods have been used to restrict the sleep of experimental animals, it is often unclear whether these different forms of sleep restriction have comparable effects on sleep-wake architecture or functional capacity. The present study compared four models of sleep restriction, using enforced wakefulness by rotation of cylindrical home cages over 11 h in male Wistar rats. These incl...
